15 Encouraging Bible Verses To Heal A Broken Heart
Bible verses for emotional healing and a broken heart
Healing from a broken heart can be one of the most difficult things to experience. Whether it’s from a relationship ending or rejection from someone, it doesn’t feel good.
You might have stumbled across this post because maybe you’ve been struggling with how to heal. And I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. So many people, including myself, have experienced heartbreak and it sucks, to say the least.
But there is good news, friend! The Bible equips us with Scripture that tells us how God works through our heartbreaks, hurt, and emotional pain.
I’ve been through my fair share of heartbreak, and what has always helped me was going to God’s Word and praying for healing.
In this post, I’ll be sharing with you 15 Bible verses that I found so comforting and encouraging for healing a broken heart.
15 Bible Verses To Heal A Broken Heart
1. Numbers 6:24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26 ESV)
If you’ve listened to the popular worship song, ‘The Blessing,’ by Kari Jobe, you’ve probably heard of this verse. God is with you even when you feel distant from Him. He wants to pour and shower His blessings over you and promises us peace and protection.
Know that your Father wants to be close to you even during your brokenness and pain. He receives you with open arms and embraces your brokenness with love and grace.
2. Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV)
If you’re experiencing heartbreak or a difficult situation, know that God promises to be with you every step of the way. You can find comfort in knowing that He has a plan for your life that is intended to grow and prosper you in your current situation.
You are not alone, and there is great hope to be found in trusting that God is in control of your future.
3. Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10 ESV)
We live in a world where it expects us to rely on our own strength with ‘self-motivation’ and ‘self-discipline’ to push through our hardships and struggles.
It’s not wrong to strengthen certain skills and qualities within yourself, but looking to overcome your hardships by relying on your own strength will only lead to disappointment. After all, we’re only human and finite.
So where do we find strength that gives us endurance to overcome our struggles? From God.
I find this verse so comforting and uplifting because it reminds me that He is always with us. Emphasis on always. And He encourages us to not be discouraged or afraid because He is the One who allows us to stand firm and gives us strength.
4. Psalm 46:1-2
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea. (Psalm 46:1-2 ESV)
In our lives, we will face uncertainty, hardships, and difficulties. It’s just part of life, which is sometimes difficult to accept.
God doesn’t promise us a life of perfect harmony, peace, and happiness. But, he does promise to be our refuge and strength when we face life’s difficulties.
So we can find comfort and encouragement in knowing that He is with you in your healing process. The Lord is your source of strength that you can seek when you feel utterly hopeless and broken.
5. John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:27 ESV)
The Lord gives us peace that no other person can give us. He says ‘not as the world gives’ which means that the peace we try to seek in our relationships and our circumstances will never satisfy the peace that only He gives.
When your heart is unsettled and struggling to find peace, seek Christ, who is the Prince of Peace. Pray that He would fill your heart with peace and heal your broken heart. Pray that He would give you strength and healing to let go of what troubles you.
6. Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
When we’re healing from a broken heart or relationship, it’s common to feel anxious about our future or think negatively about ourselves. God calls us to pray and seek Him when we worry or feel anxious.
He can and will give you the comfort and peace you are looking for.
7. Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. (Revelation 21:4 ESV)
In this world, we experience pain, heartbreak, rejection, tragedy, and death. Yet, this comforting verse reminds us that God has established a new heaven and new earth.
He sees you in your brokenness and suffering. He hurts for you and your pain. But the good news is that there will be a day, when every tear will be dried away by our Savior. There will be no more suffering, death, and pain.
Find comfort and hope in knowing that Christ holds the future and everything will come into completion under His perfect reign.
8. Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 ESV)
Jesus will turn no one away. Instead, he makes an open invitation to anyone who chooses to believe in Him that he can bring relief and lift any burdens.
He calls us to draw closer to Him because He wants to heal our hurting hearts and give us comfort and strength.
9. Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3 ESV)
Whether you’re coming out of a long-term relationship or letting go of someone you loved, it’s soo hard to feel the hurt and pain. It’s heavy and sometimes, too painful to bear.
I’ve been there, for sure and let me tell you, friend, it’s not an easy journey. Yes, time will heal the pain and hurt. But, God can also be the friend we seek in times of loneliness, heartbreak, and hurt.
He heals us from the pain that is too unbearable for us. He binds our wounds and gives us the strength we need to heal.
You are not alone in your suffering. Christ is with you always.
10. Isaiah 46:3-4
Listen to me, O house of Jacob,
all the remnant of the house of Israel,
who have been borne by me from before your birth,
carried from the womb;
even to your old age I am he,
and to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
I will carry and will save. (Isaiah 46:3-4 ESV)
There is deep comfort in this verse in knowing that Christ is with you from before you were born until the day you go to be with Him. How comforting is this!
We have a Father that loves us so deeply that He is so invested in our lives. He wants to carry our burdens and be with us even during our final years of life.
11. Psalm 30:2
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me. (Psalm 30:2 ESV)
Sometimes, when we are hurting, we tend to keep our pain bottled up. It can be hard being vulnerable with others or maybe you don’t have a support system that you can go to. Let me just tell you right now that God sees and hears you.
He knows exactly what you’re going through. He wants you to cry out to Him so that you can draw near to Him.
Pray and cry out to God in this moment, and He will deliver you from your brokenness.
12. John 16:22
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. (John 16:22 ESV)
We can expect there to be pain and suffering in this world. Sometimes, it’s painful to see how dark and sinful this world is from the news we watch or even from our own personal experiences.
Jesus addresses to his followers that though the pain is difficult, the reward is great. The short-lived, temporary pain that we experience today is nothing compared to the joy that we will experience when Christ brings us home.
13. Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18 ESV)
If you’re feeling defeated, you’re not alone. The Lord draws near to the brokenhearted and relentlessly pursues you in your brokenness.
He can and will save you from your despair by giving you hope and peace. Know that you can trust Him with your hurt, grief, and pain. He wants to carry your burdens.
14. 1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7 ESV)
God commands us to cast all our anxieties onto him, meaning every single one of them. Sometimes, we think that something so small doesn’t seem worth it to bring to Christ.
But that small anxious thought you have is exactly what He wants to hear.
He cares for you so much that anything you think is too small or too big will not make Him less interested in hearing your requests and prayers. Share your heart with Him because He is listening!
15. Romans 5:8
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 ESV)
This verse is such a powerful reminder that we did not deserve a second chance at life to live. It’s through Christ’s sacrifice that we are forgiven as sinners and can have a close relationship with God.
God loves us SO much that even though He knew how deep in sin we were, He sent his precious, beloved Son to die in place of our sins.
We can find peace and comfort in knowing how much He really, truly loves us.
What does God say about a broken heart?
I think Psalm 147:3 pretty much sums it up. He heals the brokenhearted, and bind up their wound. God will heal us from our broken hearts. Yes, it will take time and patience, but most of all, it takes faith and trust. You can trust that God will heal you, but you need to actively seek Him in your brokenness.
Will God restore a broken relationship?
Yes, He can heal a broken relationship because He can do anything. He is our Healer and Restorer.
We had a broken relationship with God himself, yet He restored and reconciled us to Him by sending his Son to die on the cross for our sins. He will listen to and answer your prayers, but maybe not in the way that we want Him to.
Because God knows and wants what’s best for us, sometimes, He does us a favor in the long run by preventing a certain person to come back into our lives. Continue to pray and seek Him earnestly if you are experiencing a broken relationship in your life. He is here for you!
Conclusion
There’s no doubt that pain and suffering is difficult. Healing from a broken heart is so hard. Please know that you have a Helper and Savior that is with you during every step of your healing journey.
You are truly not alone. I also want to remind you that your worth is not defined by your relationships or your past mistakes. What defines you is who you are in Christ and your relationship with Him.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am praying that this truth will resound and make its way into your heart today.
